    SWIM PRACTICE INFORMATION

Swim practice starts today for new Cuda swimmers.  Please see the website for the practice schedule on the home page under Links (top left corner of the home page).  Below is information in regards to swim practice:

    1.  What should my child bring and wear to swim practice?

All swimmers should bring a towel, goggles, wear a practice swim suit, and cap.  Practice swim suits for girls should be a one piece suit and for boys should be a speedo or jammer.  We recommend purchasing in-expensive practice suits and avoid wearing your team meet suit.  Caps are optional but we highly suggest wearing a cap for safety and hair management.  Caps will prevent long hair from blocking a swimmer’s vision through the goggles, prevent snags along the lane ropes, prevent altering the swimmer’s stroke (keeping good form), and reduce damage to the hair from the chlorine in the pool.

    2.  Do we have practice if the weather turns bad?  When will I be notified?  How will I be notified if practice is canceled?

As we all know, Houston weather can change quickly.  The safety of our swimmers and coaches are top priority.  We will have practice in the rain absent of thunder and lightning.  If thunder or lightning occur, the swimmers and coaches must exit the pool and the pool deck for a determined amount of time.  Each time we have thunder or lightning, the clock starts over.  If no thunder and lightning and only rain, we will have practice.  We will notify parents no later than 15-30 minutes prior to the start of swim practice and provide periodic updates.  If we see the forecast or radar indicates severe weather, we will cancel all practices.  We will notify you through email and the NH Cuda Facebook page.  If you need access to the NH Cuda Facebook page, please request access through FB or send an email to Beverly Mills at [email protected].

    3.  Can I assist my child with practice or sit next to the pool while my child swims?

No Parents are allowed on deck during practice.  On deck = inside the pool gates.  NWAL rules and our general liability insurance dictates that no parents are allowed on deck during swim practice.  For safety reasons, the coaches must have their full attention on the swimmers in the pool.  If you need to speak with one of the coaches, ask to speak with them after practice outside the gates or email Coach Laura at [email protected].  Our coaches are wonderful and have years of experience with swimmers of all ages.  It's a little scary dropping off your child at the gate (especially if it's their first time) but the coaches will make the kids feel right at home.  You can view practice from the pavilion that’s outside the gate.
